Creating Inner Space
Facilitated by: Ken Frazier, M.Ed., LPC
“The mind is great when used as a tool and not so great when it is calling the shots.”
~Joan Borysenko, author of Inner Peace for Busy People and The Power of the Mind to Heal
Eckhart Tolle, Joan Borysenko, Byron Katie and many other spiritual teachers tell us that it’s not what happens to us that causes our distress. It’s what we think about these events that are the real source of our suffering.
We will use the principles and practices of Cognitive Mechanics to understand how our thoughts (i.e., cognitions) are CAUSE and that emotions, behaviors and even physical sensations are EFFECT. Understanding the relationship between “ego mind” and the “observer/decision maker” allows us to effectively use mindfulness to create distance between ourselves and the mental-emotional turmoil of a mind at war with itself.
Specifically, this experience will help you:
- Examine the relationship between your ego and your observer/decision maker
- Identify your fundamental ego beliefs that drive your limiting stories about who you are and what the world is
- Learn specific tools to deal with the worry, catastrophic thinking, and automatic self-defeating thoughts that keep you stuck in painful patterns
- Develop a “corrective” belief system for yourself
- Learn to apply the principles of Cognitive Mechanics to support achieving your desire for more peaceful living
